 About The Art of Eloquence

The Art of Eloquence is a workshop dedicated to helping students succeed in English language arts. Too many secondary

students are writing at a much lower level than expected and the workshop was started in order to help rectify this problem.

All workshops are carefully designed to include the four most common writing styles: descriptive, expository, narrative and         persuasive. Each week, a different writing style is covered and each day a different topic is explored.

The first 15 minutes of each session is spent on a mini lesson. The lesson can be a grammar exercise, an explanation of  literary  elements or an exploration of critical thinking processes. Next, students are given a challenging 15-minute reading, followed by a 30-minute group discussion. The interactive analysis offers students an opportunity to draw from what they know, to listen to the opinions of others, and to apply the critical thinking that develops broader perspectives.

The writing portion of the workshop follows the discussion. It lasts for an hour, giving students ample time to draft their papers

while allowing the instructor time to conference with each student individually. At the end of each session, students will share

their work with each other and provide peer response.
